According to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, the company’s AI-powered
chatbot Bard will soon be upgraded to the more advanced Pathways Language
Model (PaLM).

This move comes as Bard competes against OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which has gained
immense popularity and reached 100 million monthly active users within two
months of launch. In a recent interview, Pichai mentioned that the PaLM
model will provide Bard with enhanced capabilities in areas such as
reasoning, coding, and math problem-solving.
The PaLM model is a 540-billion parameter-dense decoder-only transformer
model trained using Google’s Pathways system, which enables efficient
training across multiple TPU v4 pods.
Google has evaluated PaLM on hundreds of language understanding and
generation tasks and found that it achieves state-of-the-art few-shot
performance across most tasks, with significant margins in many cases.
Additionally, Google has developed its own language model, LaMDA, which is
trained on 137 billion parameters and will enable Bard to draw responses
from high-quality sources to provide up-to-date answers.
