WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, is introducing a new feature in its Android and iOS beta versions that allows users to send high-definition (HD) photos. According to a report from WABetaInfo, this feature enables users to choose a higher-quality option when sending photos.
However, it should be noted that even though this feature preserves the image dimensions, some minor compression will still be applied to the picture. Therefore, sending photos in their original quality is not possible.
By default, the option for sending photos will always be set to ‘Standard quality’ for all pictures. This means that users will need to manually select the HD option each time they want to send a photo with better quality. When using the ‘high quality’ option, a new tag will be added to the message bubble to inform the recipient that the photo was sent using this feature.
At present, the ability to send HD photos is being rolled out to select beta testers on Android and iOS. It is expected that this feature will gradually become available to more users in the coming weeks.
Earlier this year, reports indicated that WhatsApp was working on implementing this feature for its Android beta version. Subsequently, it was also reported that the company was developing the same feature for its iOS beta version. Now, with the rollout of this new feature, WhatsApp users on both platforms will have the option to send high-definition photos, enhancing the visual quality of their shared images.
