Google Pay Users Receive Erroneous Funds: Some Google Pay users were
surprised to find additional funds in their accounts, ranging from USD 10 to
USD 1,000 (approximately ₹80,000).
However, the excitement was short-lived
as Google detected the glitch and promptly reversed the credited amounts.
Users who had already transferred or spent the funds were informed that the
money belonged to them and no further action was needed.
EXCITEMENT ON TWITTER
Journalist Mishaal Rahman shared his excitement on Twitter, stating,
“Uhhh, Google Pay seems to just be randomly giving users free money right
now. I just opened Google Pay and saw that I have $46 in “rewards” that I
got “for dogfooding the Google Pay Remittance experience.” What.” Rahman
also advised users on how to check if they had received the same rewards as
him, adding that he suspected it was an error and the funds would likely
remain in his account.

REACTION FROM ELON MUSK
Twitter CEO Elon Musk also commented on the incident, simply writing
“Noice.”
ERRONEOUS PAYMENTS REVERSED
Reports indicate
that Google has reversed all erroneous payments where possible. Rahman
shared on Twitter that he received an email from Google acknowledging the
error. “You received this email because an unintended cash credit was
deposited to your Google Pay account.
The issue has since been resolved and where possible, the credit has been
reversed.” For users who spent or transferred the funds, Google stated that
no action was necessary as the money was theirs to keep. However, those who
left the funds in their Google Pay accounts had the credited amount
removed.
